Late Night Roundup: Jon Stewart Shames Congress — On Behalf Of America’s Heroes

Jon Stewart made a grand return to The Daily Show, and he did it for a special cause: To shame senators who haven’t supported the Zadroga Act, a bill to fully fund health care for 9/11 first responders who have suffered serious complications from exposure to that dangerous environment.

By the end of the day, Jon did successfully pressure Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) into signing up as a co-sponsor — so maybe shame works.

Larry Wilmore highlighted the performances of the GOP candidates last week at the Republican Jewish Coalition — full of pandering to Jewish stereotypes.

Conan O’Brien was the first late night host to get in a line about Donald Trump’s call for banning Muslims from entering the United States. “Trump’s statement was so outrageous and so offensive — his poll numbers went up 20 points.” Conan also added: “I wish that was a joke.”

Seth Meyers gave a serious look at the latest news on terrorism: President Obama’s speech to the country; the Republicans reactions against it; and the media frenzy at the San Bernadino attackers’ apartment.

And Stephen Colbert highlighted one of the secret weapons that ISIS has: Methamphetamine pills. To which Stephen offers a new idea for a clear path to victory: “We just have to flood Syria with less of the spiders-on-your-face, stabby drugs — and more of the peace-and-love drugs.”

In its 920-page policy manual the word “abortion” appears nearly 200 times.
